Webby,
Very nice impression.
One thing, and I am by no means any authority on this, but shouldn't the mag pouches open inwards instead of outwards?

well to quote the chap who runs the shop "I want some1 to create a really nasty virus, a virus that will wipe the internet off the face of the earth" << he's 1 of these chaps who I dont think has quite got his head around the Computer age.

Good set of people though, worth popping in if you can spare the time and the distance to north manchester, there are about 5-10 regulars who sit reminicing in the shop on a saturday, most of whom run the Bury re-enactment group, Heather knows more about them than I.

They have a shop, they dont take cards unfortunately, only cash, postal order or cheque, he said that upon receiving the cheque, you should receive ur goods in 4-5 working days.... not bad for a mail order place, and the guys know what theyre talking about if you have any questions.

Thats a very authentic shopping experience, does he make you sign for the kit as well like the QM ?

I dont know, I have seen photos on both, I think its just down to what feels comfortable for the wearer.... ideally I think they should both be pointing the same way so that all 10 mags are accessable by the left (reloading) arm.

I shoot with both sides, so I guess its not such a problem, I have them facing outwards because its difficult to slide the mags out when theres another in its way.

IMHO I think one should just wear kit in the most comfortable way and the way that works best.

I don't think a soldier would stick to protocol if it didn't work effectively. Just do what feels and works best.

Some units did and still do make you wear the kit as per the book, thankfully not many. When you get out on the ground you can wear your kit as you like, just as long as you can do your job.

Webby,
Have just been looking at all the piccies I can find and just about every variation on webbing set up is shown. As HS said, wear it how you find it most comfortable & effective....... and don't listen to me!!

 me eating humble pie

Best get m'blinkers on then! :)

My kit is based on an officer+82nd Airborne version of the character 'Corporal Corrion' from the Brothers in Arms game...as with most of my impressions, usually comes from playing a PC game (I TOLD Heather I would end up with my Airborne gear again if I bought that game!!!!) hehe!

As flibble said in another thread, the first thing people got rid of after the first drop was respirators. If you feel the need to be authentic you can drop it into the boot of my car for safekeeping. ;)

BTW, if you get grenades like the game character you'll find that it's fecking hard to shoulder your weapon with them on both sides like that so you'll soon move both to one side. See? Do what works best.

When I had my 101st gear I managed to shoulder my Thompson with the grenades on the D-rings alright. There is a nack to hanging the nades so they face towards ur chest, they do flap about a bit though! :)

Did the Germans wear the y straps over or under the shoulder boards, or perhaps both ways was acceptable?
